Ottawa Centre NDP Federal Nomination Meeting

Saturday, January 11th, 2025

Friends, neighbours, New Democrats,

Not only do we need to take back Ottawa Centre, our riding is eager for fresh leadership.

I'm ready to put my experience to work on behalf of the community I so dearly love!

Like many of you, I have been frustrated by the poisoning of political discourse.

We have to stop the rising, hate-motivated right wing from taking this country backwards.

People across Canada – including a stone's throw from Parliament Hill in our riding – are grappling with multiple and compounding crises: rising cost of living, lack of affordable housing, crumbling care systems putting increased pressure on families and communities, and escalating negative impacts of climate change.

Canadians deserve better than cynical politics driven by fear and division.

That's why I want to run.

Love, hope, and optimism are what I want to bring to Ottawa Centre doorsteps and to the House of Commons … along with the focus on progressive solutions, community building, and cooperation that has been the heartbeat of our party since its beginnings.

Sincerely,

Vicky Smallman
Candidate for nomination, Ottawa Centre

A tireless activist with deep roots in our community and a strong vision for equity and inclusion, she knows how to bring people together and get good things done. I have had the privilege of working with Vicky over the past two decades on many municipal, provincial, and federal campaigns. She is a natural leader. With her heart in Ottawa Centre, Vicky would serve all residents with passion and integrity. Catherine McKenney : Read more

Vicky will bring the right blend of skills, experience, and grit to help Jagmeet Singh and the NDP caucus achieve even more in parliament. Vicky will be a leader in their efforts to advance a social democratic agenda which ensures that no one is left without food on the table, a roof over their head, public health care when they need it, and clean air to breathe. She understands that meaningful change requires collaboration—within our communities and across movements. Her work with unions, human rights organizations, and grassroots groups has prepared her to be the bold, compassionate, and effective leader Ottawa Centre needs in this critical moment.
